How do I send email using the Web Mail interface?

To create a new message:

 

1. Click Write Msg on the navigation bar to bring up a Write Message page.
2. Enter the recipient's email address in the TO: field. You can also send copies of the message by entering additional recipients in the CC: and BCC: fields. (BCC, or "blind carbon copy," sends a copy without any of the other recipients knowing about it.)
3. Type the text of your message in the large textbox.
4. Click the SEND! button, located at the top of the message page.

Can I send mail as HTML?

You can embed HTML tags in your outgoing message by checking the box next to Send this message as HTML, located above the SEND! button on the Write Message page. Note that not all email programs are capable of interpreting HTML email. Your recipients may have difficulty reading your messages if they do not use email software that supports HTML email.

How do I forward a message?

To forward the message you're currently reading to another mailbox:

 

1. Choose forward to from the drop-down menu directly above the message, toward the left side of your browser's window.
2. Click the Do It! button, which will bring up a Write Message page with the subject and text of the message you are forwarding filled in for you.
3. Type the address(es) you want to forward the message to in the To: box. You can add text or edit the original message if you'd like.
4. Click the SEND! button to forward the message.

How do I reply to a message?

You can reply to a message from the Read Message screen, or use a short cut to reply directly from the Inbox screen.

 

To reply to a message you're currently reading:

 

1. Choose Reply to Sender (to reply to only the person who sent the mail) or Reply to All (to reply to the person who sent the mail as well as all the original recipients) from the drop-down menu directly above the message, toward the left side of your browser's window.
2. Click Do It!, to bring up a Write Message page with the sender, subject, and other "header" information already filled in. The text of the message you are replying to also appears in the text box.
3. Type your reply into the large text box. You can also edit the sender's message or delete it entirely.
4. Click SEND! to send your reply.

 

From your inbox:

 

You can quickly reply to any message straight from the list of messages in the Inbox or other folders by clicking on the sender's address, which will bring up the Reply to Message page. Then follow the steps outlined above.

Why am I having problems sending very large messages with Web Mail?

Outgoing messages are subject to a maximum length, which is limited by your web browser and your own particular computer system. "Text areas" (the large box where you type your message) on Windows 95 and Windows NT machines are limited to approximately 30K. Other systems have much higher limits. If you have difficulty editing a large message, try making the message smaller or including large documents as attachments. (These limitations do not apply when reading messages.)

Can I keep a copy of my outgoing messages?

When you send an email with Web Mail, a copy is automatically stored in the Outbox folder.

Why did my email bounce?

If you send a message that couldn't be delivered, you will receive your message bounced back to you, with what may seem like a cryptic explanation of what happened. Usually you will see a line at the top of the bounced message that says "User unknown", or "Invalid Host". If you get a bounce like this, you probably made a typing mistake when addressing the email, or the email address that you have is incorrect.
